Leaving home to study can present a number of issues. Leaving your home country and living in a foreign country with a different language, culture and general way of living presents a completely different number of issues again. You will be living away from family and friends, in a different climate, and eating different food. Independence and responsibility are two traits that you will find will need to be developed quickly.
Whilst studying in a different country may raise a number of potentially difficult issues for you, your time here will be an amazing experience. You will form new and wonderful friendships, learn different ways of doing things and see many new places.
When adjusting to a new environment, many new students experience periods of emotional highs and lows. You will miss what is familiar to you and yet be excited about your new adventure. This phase will pass and you will soon settle into a routine as things around you become more familiar. Making new friends and exploring your new surrounds together will help you through this phase.
However, if you feel it is all getting too much for you, IIBT does have a student support service who can sit with you and talk with you about what you are going through. Don’t hesitate to contact IIBT to arrange some time for you to spend with a counsellor or an IIBT staff member.
